Structure and Independence

The structure of Radiance is inspired by the education and experience of the lead teacher, Zainab Abdus-Saboor. Through her time teaching and continued journey in both Montessori and traditional settings, the pieces fell into place to create Radiance's curriculum. Using tangible materials and flexible seating, students are able to learn in an environment that suits their needs. Students also learn self-management and interpersonal skills through the small multi-aged group.
The work available to students is created to support their choice and independence. Learning is guided by the teacher through mini-lessons and demonstrations.
Independence through life skills is also a main focus, including:
-
Toileting: Radiance accepts students who are in pull-ups and in the process of being potty-trained for an added monthly cost of $150 until they show full independence when using the toilet.
-
Dressing: Change clothes, Put on shoes, Keep clothes clean-wear an apron, roll up sleeves...
-
Eating: Prepare their plates, Use a spoon and fork, Clean up after themselves
-
Speaking: Use verbal and non-verbal language to communicate for multiple purposes, Share words to provide detail, Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly, Manage their emotions and relationships
